Tesco withdraws plans (for now)

Ok, so Tesco have decided to withdraw the application rather than get a refusal and they appear to be planning a revised application.

The city’s main objection was based on the grounds that is was not inline with the original masterplan.

It is hoped that if Tesco must re-submit that they will use this time to reflect and co-operate fully with the local community groups, such as Sneinton Market and Sneinton Alchemy.

Apologies for the belated response.

Council Advised to reject Tesco plans

This is good news. It’s not yet been formally refused but it basically means that the Council have been advised by their planning department to reject the Tesco Eastside bid. More often than not the planning committee will follow this advise to the letter but we’ll soon find out on May 25th.

This is a copy of the report which will be considered by the planning committee on that date.

Local news stories regarding this can be read on the Evening Post and BBC Nottingham websites

Oh, and well done to Militant Elvis Anti- Tesco Popular Front party for winning 322 votes in Dales Ward during the local elections. Hopefully this will be read as further protest to our petition which now has 267 signatures.

Committee Decision moved forward to April 20th

The latest news from the case planning officer is that the council’s committee decision has been moved forward to April 20th. I have been informed that applications are often delayed and this is perhaps not surprising given the complexity.

Also, on April 11th there will be a report published online and in the run up to the committee meeting. These reports are often a good indication of the decision which will be made.

So… as ever we’ll continue to collect petition signatures and make our voice heard, especially if any further developments occur.

I’m curious to know how the latest news about Broadmarsh will effect the development – have Tesco consulted with Westfield over this alternative site?

Petition Tesco

The Case Planning Office has informed me that the date of the Committee is 23rd March – this is the date the council planning people meet to make a decision on the proposed scheme. So in the mean time we simply need to tell Tesco that they’re not wanted. To get things going, please sign the following petition:

Letter of Objection

Phew! We’ve just managed to cobble together a letter of objection before the 31st December deadline. You can use our letter template here to write your own message to your local MP, councillor and the planning case officer. See who to contact here. These are the basic points of objection:

1. The threat to the local retail environment
2. A detrimental increase in traffic
3. Design flaws
4. The economic and social impact on local residents
5. An inadequate approach to public consultation
6. A sequential approach to other more appropriate sites has not been taken
7. There is no need for another Tesco in this area
8. We need better alternative shopping plans from our local authority
